AR seizes areca nuts worth ₹1.35 crore

Assam Rifles seized three trucks carrying 15.7 tonnes of areca nuts worth Rs 1.35 crore at Saibon village in Sangaikot sub-division on June 21.According to PRO IGAR (S), an Assam Rifles column was launched in Saiboh village area, Churachandpur district, based on information received from sources regarding the movement of contraband items across the Indo Myanmar border.
Three unattended goods carriers were discovered, and following a thorough check of the region, it was discovered that they were transporting approximately 15.7 tons of Myanmar-origin areca nuts worth Rs 1.35 crore.
The seized trucks and areca nuts were handed over to District Forest Office, Churachandpur for further action, the PRO said in a release.
