Noney, November 22 2024:
The Imphal-Jiribam section of National Highway-37 has been rendered inaccessible since Thursday due to massive rockslides at Nungdalan, located between K Sinam and Sehjang villages under Kangpokpi district.
The Ganpati Company, which is undertaking the double-lane road expansion project, has deployed five excavators to clear the debris from both end of the road.
However, the clearance efforts are being hindered by continuous rockslides and the steep, rocky terrain.
According to a Ganpati Company official, the removal of the debris may take the entire day before the road is reopened for vehicular traffic.
Owing to the rockslides, 115 loaded trucks remain stranded near Noney Police Check Post, awaiting the clearance of the road.
On the other-hand, a 29-bogie special goods/freight train of the Indian Railways, transporting more than 30,000 bags of rice, arrived at Khongshang railway station in Noney district on Friday around 9:15 am.
The train had left Jiribam station at 5:50 am .
