MUC, JNMDA celebrate World Music Day

Imphal, June 22 2025:
Department of Music, Manipur University of Culture (MUC), celebrated World Music Day 2025 at its Extension Campus in Canchipur, on Saturday.
The event was attended by MUC vice-chancellor professor Paonam Gunindro Singh, deputy registrar Dr Lourembam Surjit Singh and Hindustani vocalist Laimayum Devendrajit Sharma as chief guest, president and guest of honour.
The event included a presentation of Manipuri folk music by Mangka Mayanglambam, and duet Hindustani Khayal recital by Dr Rajkumar Satyaditya and Moirangthem Cherish Singh.
Students of the university also performed a Hindustani flute recital and Salai Isei on the occasion.
The Jawaharlal Nehru Manipur Dance Academy (JN-MDA) also celebrated World Music Day at its auditorium on Saturday with JNMDA vice chairman L Joychandra Singh, retired Pradhan Guru M Maminikumar Singh and Pradhan Guru in-charge Ksh Kriti Singh as presidium members.
As part of the celebration, students of the academy presented Pung Cholom, a short music session by senior musicians, and a Dhol Dholak presentation.
The highlight of the programme was the rendition of the song "Changjari Ibungngo Nangonda", composed by the JNMDA production unit.
In a related event, a one-day lecture-cum-demonstration was organised at MM KS Children Home (CO), Kabow Leikai, Imphal East.
The programme was jointly organised by Dreams for Destiny's Publication, Brahmapur Aribam Leikai and the Shri Shri Radhamadanmohanji Manipuri Manoharsai Sankirtan Preservation Committee, Kongba Kshetri Leikai.
During the session, Mathu-rabashimayum Boinao Sharma and Gurumayum Shivachandra Sharma conducted demonstrations on the Manipuri Shrikhol Mridanga and Manoharsai songs.
