ATDUM bats for equality of differently-abled persons

All Tribal Disabled Union, Manipur (ATDUM) general secretary T Chuongsin Koireng has stated that differently-abled persons can be on equal footing with others, only when they are not sidelined from society, their problems accorded seriousness as public issue and steps taken to address them.
Speaking at the Regional Consultation on 'Rights of the Indigenous People's with Disabilities in Northeast India, Enhancing Network & Capacity Building' organised by the union at Castle Hotel, Palace Compound on Wednesday, Chuongsin Koireng informed that the programme aims to highlight the rights of differently-abled persons, and make the public aware about their grievances and aspirations to live as equals.

Mentioning that the union is raising awareness on the issue by visiting various places and interacting with public, the general secretary appealed to authorities concerned for special focus to ensure that the differently-abled persons get their rights.
The programme was attended by Lok Sabha MP Angomcha Bimol Akoijam, commissioner for persons with disabilities W Birahari, Manipur State Commission for Women chairperson Thumlip Tiningpham Monsang, Manipur Human Rights Commission member Kangjam Khagendra and Social Welfare deputy director L Dhaneshwor as presidium members.
