Imphal, June 02 2024:
Democratic Students' Alliance of Manipur (DESAM), Manipur University Council (MUC) has demanded University authority to take stringent action against teaching and non-teaching staff as per varsity rules, who were found involved in the pre-PhD entrance test fiasco of Department of Education by the enquiry committee formed on the matter.
In a release, DESAM MUC secretary general Santosh Khaidem conveyed that it filed a complaint to varsity authority against the Department of Education over its handling of its pre-PhD QET results of which were announced twice in April 29 and May 1.Subsequently, a three-member enquiry committee was instituted which found discrepancies in the test process leading the varsity authorities to issue an order cancelling the said QET and directing the Department of Adult Continuing Education and Extension to hold a re-entrance test, which were then held on May 26, it noted.
Maintaining that the order by the MU authority substantiated inconsistency in the entrance test, DESAM MUC demanded that authority must punish the persons involved in the fiasco before the result of the re-entrance test is announced, so that such incidents do not recur.
The students' body further cautioned that it will not accept the case being swept under the carpet or any compromise reached by MU, while urging the varsity authority to not allow involvement of Department of Education HoD or any faculty member in the selection process for the new entrance test.
