MPCC team scans status of job oriented projects

A team of Manipur Pradesh Congress Committee (MPCC) led by president K Meghachandra on Tuesday inspected government projects initiated for providing jobs to youth of the state.
The MPCC team, which also comprised former MLA E Dwijamani, MPCC vice president Bhupenda and former INC candidate of Lamlai AC Deben, first visited the cold storage project at Nilakuthi Food Park but expressed shock cm finding the project serving no real purpose.
Nevertheless, Meghachandra appealed to the state government to ensure benefits of the project to the people thorough necessary action.
He also expressed regret that the project costing Rs 2.79 crore and established nine years back remains useless till date.
The MPCC team assessed the cold storage about 11am but there was no stock of vegetables and other, food items and no power supply to chambers of the facility.
After the inspection, Meghachandra told media persons that the team decide to conduct surprise check as the project is considered ideal for a state like Manipur whose economy is primarily dependent on perishable agricultural produces.
He also revealed that the visit would aid in questioning about the project in the ensuing session of the state assembly.
The Congress president, however, expressed regret that the project has been rendered useless even after nine years of its completion.
The MPCC team later visited Commerce and Industries Department in Lamphelpat and assessed works under livelihood business incubators.
The team found embroidery training imparted to women and interacted with officials of food processing programmes being initiated by the department.
