SATHOULUP remembers Hijam Anganghal

Imphal, July 29 2024: Sahitya Thoupang Lup (SATHOULUP) observed the 132nd birth anniversary of Mahakabi Hijam Anganghal at Mantha Island in Loktak lake on Sunday.

Eminent artist Rk Budhimanta and SATHOULUP president Tongbram Amarjit were respectively chief guest and functional president of the commemorative event which began with offering of floral tributes to the portrait of Hijam Anganghal and recitation of late writer's poem 'Mingchat Thiba' by Laishram Romola.

Regarding the event, writer Saratchand Thiyam said that literature programmes should not be confined to Imphal only but organised at far flung places to make such events meaningful and far-reaching.

He also said that the rich Manipuri literature and culture need exposure to the global people without which outsiders cannot comprehend richness of Manipuri literature and culture.

He also said that SATHOULUP is planning to organise a Manipuri literature tour to West Bengal in September this year in Connection with celebration of the 20th foundation anniversary of the Lup.

As part of the event, a recitation programme participated by 21 poets was also organised under the sponsorship of director (fisheries) Heisnam Balkrisna.
