Thoubal, July 26 2024: Apunba Nupi Khunnai Lamjing Meira Lup, Yairipok, a constituent organisation of Poirei Leimarol Meira Paibi Apunba Lup, has demanded the government to remove Assam Rifles from the state to pave the way for restoration of peace and normalcy.

Addressing a press meet at Pechi on Friday, Lup general secretary Sumati expressed strong resentment over alleged biased conduct of Assam Rifles deployed in the state.

Expressing fear that Meetei community will perish if Assam Rifles continues to operate in the state, she demanded state and Central government to remove Assam Rifles from the state at the earliest.

The secretary further alleged Assam Rifles of supporting one side in the current conflict in the state.

Considering the nature of the para-military force and their outlook towards the Meetei community, replacing them with another Central security force would be the only way to address the crisis, she added.
