Professor Jayant Padnakar Mahajan of Christ University, Pune in Maharashtra, who is cycling across the country to spread awareness about climate change accorded a warm welcome by Shiv Sena, Manipur led by its president M Tombi, on his arrival here on Friday.
Professor Padnakar, who hails from Katrang village Khopoli in Maharashtra, started his cycling journey from Zero point of India-Pakistan border in Gujarat on January 23, 2024 with the theme 'Change before climate change'.
He aims to cover 20,000km across India and pedals around 100km per day.
Prof Padnakar told media persons on the sidelines of a reception programme organised by Shiv Sena Manipur that he knew about the natural beauty of Manipur but witnessed climate change mainly due to deforestation while travelling through hilly terrains of the state.
He also talked about many challenges he faced while travelling in North East states particularly in Manipur.
