Imphal, June 23 2024:
Ima Khunthokhanbi Meira Paibi Lup organised a sit-in protest near the western gate of DM College decrying the failure of the government to intervene in the year-long conflict and asked the government to allow the people to fight the aggressors since they are doing nothing.
Lup general secretary Phuritsabam Bina told media persons that the government, after its failure to prevent and control the conflict for over a year, is arresting village volunteers who are defending the integrity of the state.
Maintaining that the village volunteers are the last line of defence against the Kuki militants, she questioned the motive of the government for arresting the village volunteers.
She further demanded the government to withdraw its plan to deploy central security forces in different parts of the state.
People are apprehensive of the motive behind the heavy deployment of central forces as they have lost their trust in the central forces, she added.
Protestors held placards with slogans like "Leaders cannot remain silent", "Stop blaming our sons by forcing them to hold weapons", "Unite CSOs at the earliest", "Let us fight for ourselves if GoI cannot protect us", "Stop protecting Kukis", etc.
