Phungcham implements five-year hunting ban

Ukhrul, August 18 2025:
Phungcham, Paorei, Varangalai Centre Mashun-rum (PPVCM) has announced a five-year prohibition on all hunting activities within the jurisdiction of the three habitations of Phungcham village.
According to a notification issued by the Centre's secretary Sorin Khaleng, the ban takes effect from August 2025 and will remain in force until August 2030.All neighbouring villages have been notified against entering the village's jurisdiction with firearms intended for hunting animals or birds during this period.
Any individual from a neighbouring village found in violation of or failing to comply with this order will face a penalty of Rs 10,000 .
The village authority formally adopted this order on August 4, 2025, it said.
Meanwhile, the same notification has been served to eight villages bordering Phungcham namely, Hunphun, Halang, Talui, Hoomi, Peh, Lunghar, Loree Kaju, and Kalhang.
