HAC meeting recommends ADC polls

Imphal, October 16 2024: Hill Areas Committee (HAC) of Manipur Legislative Assembly unanimously resolved to recommend to the state government for conduct of the long-pending elections to the Autonomous District Councils at the earliest.

The resolution was taken adopted in a meeting convened by HAC on October 14 .

"Necessary steps may be taken up by the government at the earliest in this regard," it stated.

The resolution further declared that as the system of caretaker chairmanship has been cancelled by an order of the state government in compliance with the Gauhati High Court order of March 15, 2024 to run the administration of ADCs, a committee consisting total of 20 members for each ADC shall be constituted for which 18 members shall be selected from among the former ADC members/experts in local self-government/eminent persons/intellectuals and two government nominees of the district as a temporary arrangement till the ADC election is conducted.
