Fitting tributes paid to Manipuri forefathers on Patriots' Day

Imphal, August 13 2021:
Commemorating the supreme sacrifices made by prince Tikendrajit and Thangal General, who were hanged to death by the British for waging war against the British regime on this day in 1891, as well as in remembrance of all the Manipuri soldiers who laid down their lives for protecting the sovereignty of Manipur during the Anglo-Manipuri war of 1891, many organisations observed 130th Patriots' Day across the state by paying fitting tributes to the departed patriots on Friday.
In a release, Justice Committee and RK Kalasana, Sagolhanjaba and RK Sana Nganba, Lourungpurel Memorial Committee said that Patriots' Day is being observed every year on August 13 in grand manner by paying tributes to all known and unknown patriots including Koireng Jubaraj, Thangal General, Pukhrambam Kajao Phingang, Charai Thangal and Niranjan Singh Subedar.
However, the observance was conducted in a humble manner this year due to the current Covid-19 pandemic with strict adherence to Covid-19 guidelines, it added.
Meanwhile, Manipur Pradesh Congress Committee (MPCC) observed 130th Patriots' Day at Congress Bhawan by paying fitting tributes to the photo of Bir Tikendrajit.
The observance was attended by MPCC interim president N Loken, CLP leader O Ibobi, CWC member Gaikhangam, AICC secretary Victor Keishing, MPCC former presidents TN Ha-okip and M Okendro Singh, MLAs, MPCC office bearers, PCC members, frontal, cell and department leaders.
Council of Higher Secondary Education Manipur (COHSEM) also observed Patriots' Day at its auditorium located at Babupara with the participation of COHSEM chairman Lamabam Mahendra, secretary Chabungbam Biren, controller of examinations Ahongsangbam Sukumar and council employees.
BJP Lamlai Mandal and BJP Imphal East observed the day at Nongada and at the residence of Imphal East district vice president Heishnam Subash respectively while Huiyen Lallong Manipur Thang-ta Cultural Association observed the Day at its Irilbung office.
The observance was attended by guru of the association and Sangeet Natak Academy awardee S Sana-thoiba Sharma, other gurus, staffers, instructors, artistes and students among others.
On the other hand, Apunba Manipur Kanba Ima Lup along with Nupi Samaj, Tammi Chingmi Apunba Ema Lup, EEVFAM, NIMPAL, Macha Leima, Universal Mothers' Organisation and EECHAL commemorated the day at its office while Assam Manipur Sahitya Parishad, Dhalpukhuri Kala Mandir Committee and AAMSU jointly observed 130th Patriots' Day by paying floral tributes to the bust of Tikendrajit installed in front of Dhalpukhuri Kala Mandir, Hojai.
Similar observance was held at Tikendrajit Marg, New Delhi.
The observance was attended by Manipur deputy chief minister Y Joykumar, union minister of state for education and external affairs Dr RK Ranjan and former health minister L Jayantakumar, intending candidates of Singjamei AC Oinam Romen and Khurai AC Laitonjam Jayananda among others.
Apunba Nupi Lup (ANUL), Thoubal Ema, The Kha Nongpok Apunba Nupi Lup, Nupi Khunai Chaokhat Lamjing Lup, Jiri Ima Meira Paibi Apunba Lup (JIMPAL), Pari Puri Kanba Apunba Lup, Committee Against Drug and Alcohol (CADA), All Manipur Students Union (AMSU-Jiribam Unit), Bright Way Club (BWC), Kwakeithel Lamdong Leikai, Mayang Imphal Youth Association, MUSU and Bharat Vikash Parishad Manipur Prant also observed Patriots' Day at their respective office premises.
Furthermore, Rotary Club of Imphal observed Patriots' Day and distributed umbrellas to traffic police personnel posted on duty in Imphal West, Imphal East, Thoubal and Bishnupur district headquarters as a part of community service project.
In a bid to make a green Manipur and as a part of Patriots' Day observance, Khundrakpam Kendra Youth Orgnisation along with Students' Club Yumnam Khunou, Sambei Youth Club, Chingkhu Youth Forum and GIM Public School planted tree saplings in various areas.
Similarly, Kangla Siphai Youth Organisation (KSYO) along with Chingkhei Apan-ba Development Committee, Kangla Siphai Purnima Marup, Chingkhei Mangal VLF and Kangla Siphai PHSC members planted tree saplings in several areas as a part of Patriots' Day observance.
Unity Khurai planted 200 tree saplings at Longmaich-ing hill and around Sanamahi Kiyong.
