Licypriya receives National Youth Icon award

Climate activist Licypriya Kangujam of Manipur was honoured with the National Youth Icon Award 2025 presented by union minister of tribal affairs Jual Oram at the National Youth Day event held in New Delhi on Sunday, recognising her contributions to raising awareness about tfie global climate crisis.
The ceremony was attended by BJP MP Manish Tiwari and other eminent personalities.
This year, 30 outstanding youths from across the country were recognised for their achievements in various fields.
The award includes a golden plaque, a certificate, and a shawl.
Among the awardees were Nagaland's guitarist Imnainla Jamir, World Chess champion Gukesh from Tamil Nadu, mountaineer Kaamya Karthikeyan from Maharashtra, Bharatnatyam dancer Ameya from Andhra Pradesh, Thinley Norboo of Ladakh Basket, and child educationist Namya Joshi from Haryana.
In a statement issued by Licypriya, minister Jual Oram commended the young awardees, emphasising the role of Indian youth in shaping the future of the nation.
He praised Licypriya's work, describing it as a source of inspiration for all and highlighting her recent initiative of providing scholarships for armed conflict victim children of Manipur at HiTech Medical College, Bhubaneswar.
In her address, Licypriya urged minister Oram to grant ST status to the Meetei community and resolve the ongoing Manipur crisis, which began on May 3, 2023.She emphasised the plight of over 30,000 children living in relief camps and stressed that India's safety is intertwined with the resolution of Manipur's challenges.
BJP MP Manish Tiwari also lauded the youths, urging them to fulfil the visions of Swami Vivekananda and Prime Minister Narendra Modi, stating, "Empowering youth means empowering the nation," the statement added.
