Lunggle VA seeks Govt aid for bridge construction

Lunggle Village Authority in Chandel district has urged government authorities to intervene in expediting construction of the bridge over the Maha river initiated with contributions from villagers of Lunggle.
Informing that one of the piers got damaged due to Heavy rainfall on August 7, Lunggle VA secretary John Chothe told news persons that only one road passing through Liwa Khullen village intersected by the Maha river connects Lunggle village, inhabited by Chothe tribe, with other parts of the state.
While informing that a two-feet-wide suspension bridge remains the only structure over the river for Lunggle villagers to venture beyond their village, John maintained that vehicles used to cross the river during the lean season which during monsoons is not possible.

Considering the problems faced by the villagers, Lunggle VA began Constructing an RCC bridge over the river with contributions from villagers, well-wishers and the church fund, without any government help.
So far, two piers of the bridge have been constructed at a cost of Rs 14 lakh, but the rapid flow of water and trees uprooted during the recent heavy rainfall damaged one of the piers, raising concern over w hether it can still be used for the planned bridge, the secretary said.
As such John appealed to the government to help in completing the bridge so as fo-alleviate grievances and suffering of the Lunggle villagers.
