International Women's Day was celebrated widely across the State on March 8, 2025 to honour women's achievements and advocate for gender equality.
Tangkhul Shanao Long
The Tangkhul Shanao Long Imphal (Tangkhul Women league Imphal) observed the International Women's Day cum-Tangkhul Shanao Long Day at MBC Recreation Centre, Imphal today.
At the backdrop of this year's international theme "Accelerate Action", TSLI celebrated the International Women's Day cum Tangkhul Shanao Long Day under the theme "Respect Cultural Rights of Women" to emphasize the urgent need of respecting cultural rights and ensure that no one is left behind in the movement for equality.
"Respecting cultures of different sections of society is an important part towards creating social harmony and it strengthens our social fabric, where women play a crucial role in preserving our culture.
The society and the State needs to accelerate their role towards eliminating the existing societal system, biases, barriers, custom, laws etc.
that are detrimental towards bringing equality of women", said TSLI in a release.
The event was graced by esteemed dignitaries, including Dr Ringkahao Horam, Principal, Pettigrew College Ukhrul; Grace Shatsang, first president of TSLI; Rev F Robert Somi, Parish Priest; Dr IK Muiyah, ADGP, Manipur; and Luckyson Ngamsha Kashung, Joint Secretary (Textile Commerce & Industries).
As part of the event, TSLI felicitated Zuringla Kengoo Chalhang on winning the "Indian Express Excellence in Governance Award (e-Governance category)".
Guru Reuben, Padmashree Awardee enthralled the gathering with his folk songs.
The programme showcased Tangkhul indigenous cuisines, traditional attires, folk song, folk music, declamation contest on "Tangkhul Shanao", and painting competition on "Haoshim", etc.
AMAWOVA
The All Manipur Women's Voluntary Association (AMAWOVA) also celebrated International Women's Day at Gandhi Memorial Hall, Imphal on the theme, "Let us carry the Struggle Forward".
The programme was graced by Dr T Tampha Devi, Professor, Manipuri Department, Manipur University; AMAWOVA president Yumkhaibam Kunjarani; Poirei Leimarol Meira Paibee Apunba Manipur president Ima Soraisam Memcha; Kabui Mothers Association president Ima Atongbi Kamei and Dr MK Washima Begum, Assistant Professor, Department of History, DM College of Arts, DM University as presidium members.
AMNM
The All Manipur Nupi Marup (AMNM) organised the International Women's Day Observation & 32nd State Conference at Rupmahal Theatre, Imphal today.
The event was graced by AMNM founder member M Kadambini, president M Shakhi Devi, vice president Th Punyabati Devi, social activist N Beni and Okram Landhoni, former MLA of Khangabok AC as presidium members.
As part of the event, AMNM felicitated five women journalists of the State namely Sapam Aruna, staff reporter of The Sangai Express; Ngasepam Liklaileima, staff reporter cum columnist of The Sangai Express; Khongbantabam Nomita, staff reporter of Hueiyen Lanpao; Konthoujam Geeta, staff reporter of Imphal Times and Sorensangbam Sonia, staff reporter of Poknapham.
Oriental College
Oriental College (Autonomous), Imphal, also observed International Women's Day under the global theme 'Accelerate Action' at its Conference Hall today.
Dr S Ranjit Singh, Principal, Oriental College (Autonomous), Imphal; L Ibeni Devi, Chairwoman, Oriental College Women's Forum and Head, Department of Mathematics; Kongkham Biplob Singha, Coordinator, IQAC, Oriental College (Autonomous); Advocate Naorem Binodini Devi and Dr S Sanayaima Devi, former convenor of Women's Forum graced the event as presidium members.
During the programme, Kongkham Biplob Singha gave a lecture on the topic, "Accelerating Action: A Call for Global Action" wherein he highlighted the multi-dimensional nature of gender inequality and the layered intersectionality of deprivation among women.
A panel discussion, interactive session and prize distribution ceremony for participants of the Intra College Essay writing competition held on March 7, 2025 were also Conducted.
Women Society
The Kangleipak Women Multipurpose Co-operative Society Ltd also celebrated International Women's Day at Porompat Thawanthaba Community Hall today under the theme, "For All Women and Girls: Rights, Equality, Empowerment".
It was organised under the aegis of the Directorate of Environment and Climate Change and Manipur State Rural Livelihood Mission, Department of RD&PR.
The event was graced by dignitaries, including Kshetrigao AC MLA, Sheikh Noorul Hassan; Kangleipak Women Multipurpose Co-operative Society Ltd president, Laishram Kamini Devi; Directorate of Environment and Climate Change, Director, T Brajakumar and MSRLM, State Mission Director, N Bandana.
RIMS
Regional Institute of Medical Sciences (RIMS), Imphal on Saturday successfully organised a blood donation camp to mark International Women's Day.
The event was jointly conducted by Life Savers Manipur, NSS Unit, and NCC of GP Women's College in collaboration with the Department of Transfusion Medicine, RIMS, Imphal.
The camp held at the auditorium of GP Women's College witnessed remarkable enthusiasm as students and staff stepped forward with compassion, resulting in 22 donors contributing selflessly to this noble cause.
IMA
Women's Wing, Indian Medical Association (IMA), Manipur State Branch also celebrated International Women's Day at Khwairamband Ima Keithel.
The celebration was organised in collaboration with OBG & Pathology Department, JNIMS; TNAI Manipur State Branch, The Bless Diagnostics, Diagnomed Khuyathong and 1979 DMC Sc Stalwarts Fourth Specialists Division.
The event was graced by dignitaries, including IMA Manipur State Branch president, Dr RK Lenin; IMA Manipur State Branch former president, Dr Kh Solochana; JNIMS, Medical Superintendent, Dr Kh Lokeshwar and IMA Manipur State Branch Women's Wing chairman, N Sadhana.
As part of the event, a free health camp was also conducted to provide essential medical care to the women vendors of Khwairamband Keithel.
Sangai Trust
International Women's Day was also celebrated today at Singjamei Mathak Chongtham Leikai, joint organised by Sangai Trust Foundation and Leima Chanu Nawa Tengbang Lub under the supervision of Dr S Bhagyabati, former Head, Department of Medicine, RIMS, Imphal.
The event was graced by Leima Chanu Nawa Tengbang Lup president, Thokchom Renu Devi; secretary Shantibala Khangembam; joint secretary Satyabati Meisnam; Managing Trustee, Sangai Trust Foundation, Salam Prasanta and Dr S Bhagyabati.
As part of the event, essential items and medicines were provided to about 15 women living with HIV (WLHTV) .
Kanglei Ima Lup
Kanglei Ima Lup (KIL) Kangleipak also celebrated International Women's Day at Manipur Press Club today.
It was attended by KIL Kangleipak president, RK Sanahanbi; JNIMS former Director, Dr Laishram Deben; UCM and COCOMI senior consultative member, Yumnamcha Dilipkumar; RIMS, College of Nursing, Principal, Prof H Jamuna and DM University, Environmental Science Department, Associate Prof, Dr Naorem Sarita as presidium members.
COCOMI convenor Khuraijam Athoubana also attended the programme as a special invitee.
Nirvana Foundation
International Women's Day was also celebrated today at Nirvana Children Home, Ghari Awang Leikai, organised by Nirvana Foundation in collaboration with GP Women's College.
The event was graced by Pramesh Arambam, SP, Traffic Control Police Wingh, Manipur; Dr P Chitra Devi, Head, Department of Education, GP Women's College (GPWC); and Sobhana Sorokhaibam, secretary of Nirvana Foundation.
During the event, Dr Yensenbam Rajlakshmi Devi, Assistant Professor, GPWC delivered a lecture on the topic "Education as an empowerment" while Dr Rindharwon A Khamrang, Assistant Professor, GPWC elaborated on "Cultivating good habits and discipline for Academic Excellence" and Dr Konsam Romita Devi, Assistant Professor, GPWC spoke on "Educate a women, educate a generation" .
Similarly, International Women's Day celebrations were also organised today by 143 Battalion, CRPF, Lamphelpat and All India Trade Union Congress, Manipur State Committee.
Meanwhile, Kakwa Ashem Leikai Meira Paibi Lup celebrated International Women's Day today by organising a 1-Day Free Health Screening Camp at the premises of Ashem Leikai Development Club.
A medical team provided free health examinations and medicines to about 150 individuals during the camp.
