Imphal, July 07 2024: District Handlooms and Textiles, Imphal East organised an awareness cum motivational programme on use and procurement policy of handloom and handicraft products of the state, at Heingang Mayai Leikai on Sunday.

The programme was attended by Heingang GP chairperson K Jayanta Singh, social worker W Jiten, Directorate of Handloom & Textiles deputy director Th Basanta, District Handlooms and Textiles project manager (handloom) Y Ashalata and Manipur Handloom and Handicrafts Development Corporation Limited manager Th Rabi, designers, weavers and artisans.

In his speech, Th Basanta urged weavers to apply for and hold weaver cards and yarn passbooks, while explaining the usage and benefits of the same.

He also mentioned the importance of the weaving products bearing the handloom mark, without which one is not allowed to participate in handloom fairs or events.

The deputy director then informed that the state government is planning to announce a new scheme for weavers with regard to difficulties faced in purchasing threads.
