Imphal, July 05 2024: Unknown armed person(s) opened fire at a location near the Royal Palace, here, where preparations are being made for the upcoming Kang (Rath Yatra) festival, in the wee hours of Friday.

According to a police report, the unknown persons came in a Hyundai Creta from the direction of Advanced Hospital and fired several rounds at the site of preparation for the festival near the Palace Gate around 12.30 am Friday.

The vehicle then drove away towards the direction of City Convention.

After learning of the incident, Porompat police arrived at the scene and took up strict security measures including conducting search operation in nearby areas.

Porompat PS has registered a case in this regard and additional forces deployed at the location so that the preparations for the Rath Yatra festival continue unhindered.
