Three kids drown in Mantak pond

Kakching, June 05 2025: A pair of siblings along with one of their cousins fell into a pond and drowned in Mantak Khunou near ITI Kakching under Kakching police station around 11 am Thursday.

The deceased children have been identified as Semlenthang Kom (9) s/o of S Khupneithang Kom of Mantak Khunou and his sister S Jenia Kom (5), and their cousin, S Moshimson Kom (5) s/o of S Khupneilen Kom.

According to reports, the trio fell into a new pond dug in a paddy field inside the abandoned campus of SSB in Kakching Wairi Panjao Pallum, located close to Mantak village.

All three children along with a fourth kid were playing in the field which had been submerged with water.

However, as the field was inundated with water, they were unaware of the presence of the newly dug pond.

As a result, all three fell into the pond.

The fourth kid shouted for help and some people working nearby rushed to pull out the three kids from the pond.

The three were immediately rushed to Jivan Hospital, Kakching but could not be saved.

The bodies have been handed over to their bereaved families.
