Cough syrup worth ₹9.4 lakh seized, one arrested

Imphal, February 05 2025: A joint team of Jiribam district police, 38 Assam Rifles, and 87 & 156 battalion CRPF seized 13 boxes containing 1,560 bottles of Wincerex cough syrup, which contains codeine phosphate, worth approximately Rs 9.4 lakh.

The seizure took place at the special mobile patrol unit check post at Leingangangpokpi, Jiribam, on Wednesday around 4 pm.

The consignment was discovered during a routine check of a truck (AS03CC 0252).The driver, identified as Maibam Premjit Singh (52), son of M Ibomcha Singh of Nongpok Sekmai Hijam Khunou, was arrested in connection with the illegal transportation of the contraband.

Following the seizure, both the arrested individual and the confiscated drugs were handed over to Jiribam police station for further legal action, police said.
