Accused in question leak will be punished: Secy

Informing that action has been taken up against all those involved in the leakage of question papers of High School Leaving Certificate Examination (HSLCE) and Higher Secondary Examination (HSE) Conducted by Board of Secondary Education, Manipur (BSEM) and Council of Higher Secondary Education (CoHSEM) respectively, Education (Schools) secretary Naorem Praveen stated that the culprits will receive the appropriate punishment regardless of who they are.

Addressing a press meet held at his New Secretariat, Babupara office on Tuesday, Praveen said that the controversy surrounding the leakage of questions of the ongoing examinations and their subsequent circulation on social media platforms is highly unfortunate.
As the scam has greatly affected the students and their parents/guardians, the government takes the matter extremely seriously and the persons involved would be punished as per the law of the land, he declared, adding that necessary actions have already been initiated.
The secretary recounted that on February 25, the question paper for social science subject of HSLCE was first uploaded on a WhatsApp Group Inter Football Geography' minutes before the exam.
After getting aware of this, a complaint was filed at Cyber Crime PS and two people were arrested.
On February 28, there was no disturbance at the examination centre at Wangjing High School.
The students also appeared for the Home Science paper peacefully, as per a report.
Meanwhile, the question paper for physics subject of HSE was leaked in a similar way around 9.35 am Tuesday, few minutes before the exam.
In this regard, a complaint was made to the SP of Cyber Crime and two people, identified as Ningombam Jagdish Singh (33) s/o Bidyashwor Singh of Thoubal Okram and Maibam Sunil Singh (33) s/o M Ibomcha of Nepra Company Makha Leikai were arrested by police, he conveyed.
Mentioning that Section 14 of The Manipur Prevention of Malpractices in High School Leaving Certificate (HSLC) and Higher Secondary Education (HSE) Act-2024' contains provisions for awarding punishment to those involved or encouraging unfair means; Praveen informed that anyone found guilty under this Act is liable for five years imprisonment and a hefty fine of up to Rs 10 lakh.
As such, the culprits involved in the recent controversy would be punished accordingly, he reiterated.
