AR organises Tangkhul arts & craft exhibition

Assam Rifles, in collaboration with the Ministry of Tribal Affairs, hosted the second edition of TACE-2024 (Tangkhul Arts and Craft Exhibition) at Phungyar, Kamjong district, on Tuesday.
The event is part of Tribal Cooperative Marketing Development Federation of India's (TRIFED) drive to preserve and promote tribal artistes' cultural heritage.
The initiative, facilitated by the Ministry of Tribal Affairs, ensures fair recognition and remuneration for artisans, promoting sustainable living without middlemen interference, said PRO IGAR (S) in a release.
Informing that the Ministry of Tribal Affairs provided the artisans with Transport and Dearness Allowance (TADA), while the Assam Rifles supported the event by offering meals, local transport, and outreach assistance, the PRO said that 40 persons, including 27 tribal artisans, representatives from Phungyar village council, and officials from Ministry of Tribal Affairs, as well as local villagers attended the exhibition which began with a welcome address, followed by the artisans proudly displaying their handcrafted treasures.
Among the showcased items were Haora shawls, Varao Kazei spears, Khairei swords, Kuisikhai knives, Ngalasop baskets, MayO Pasi headgears, beadworks, handbags, black pottery items, embroidered pieces, handmade scarves, and bamboo artefacts.
Representatives from the Ministry of Tribal Affairs facilitated the registration of artisans, ensuring they receive ongoing support through direct monetaiy benefits, the release further informed.
