Imphal, June 03 2024:
Six student bodies including DESAM, AIMS, KSA, SUK, MSF and another organisation have cautioned traders and shops in the state against hiking prices of essential commodities in the wake of the recent flood due to Cyclone Remal.
In a joint statement, the student bodies expressed serious resentment over reports of traders arbitrarily hiking prices of essential commodities such as potato, beans, lentils, pea, oil, salt, onions and garlic among others taking undue advantage of plight of the people reeling under the impact of Cyclone Remal-induced flood in the state with the ulterior motive to recoup losses suffered and apparent depletion of stock of essential items.
Acknowledging the loss suffered by traders and shops, the student bodies urged them not to resort to price hike to cover their loss and also called upon the government authorities to act swiftly to control prices of essential commodities as well as ensure sufficient supply of such essential items.
