VDF body calls off planned stir

All Manipur VDF Employees' Welfare Association (AMVDFEWA) has suspended its proposed indefinite "Gun Down and Pen Down" strike, which was scheduled to begin Friday.
According to a press statement, the decision to suspend the agitation was taken after a meeting on Wednesday with senior officials of Manipur police department, chaired by IGP Zone-1 Themthing Ngashangva and attended by DIG (HQ) S Gautam, DIGs concerned arid SPs of Imphal West, Imphal East, Bishnupur and Thoubal districts.
Representatives of VDF personnel also participated in the discussion.
Resolutions taken during the meeting include formation of a dedicated committee within the police department within August 10 to address service-related matters concerning the VDF.
In addition, a formal representation outlining the long-standing grievances and demands of the VDF personnel will be submitted to the Governor through the DGP.
The association also appealed to the government to revise the pay structure of VDF personnel, urging that at least the minimum wages applicable to skilled labour be granted on humanitarian grounds and in recognition of the dignity of their service.
Citing the assurances and mutual understanding reached during the meeting, the central committee of the AMVDFEWA declared suspension of the proposed strike to facilitate continued dialogue and progress.
