Imphal, July 30 2025:
The United Naga Council (UNC), through a 'notice of stricture', has asked "all members of the Naga community to refrain from participating in the International Day of the World's Indigenous Peoples organised by the Indigenous People's Forum, Manipur (IPFM) on August 9 at City Convention, Palace Compound, Imphal" .
The UNC said, "Upon receiving information pertaining to hosting of the International Day of the World's Indigenous Peoples by un-mandated organisation in the name of Indigenous People's Forum, Manipur, on August 9, 2025, the undersigned (UNC) hereby impose a stricture to all members of the Naga community to refrain from participating in the scheduled programme as the question of common indigeneity is being in question" .
The UNC then said it has time and again reminded all the "Naga tribe hohos" to refrain from attending any meeting, convention, event, hosted/ organised by un-mandated organisation as it is tantamount to wilful confrontation to the aspiration of the Nagas.
While extending its solidarity to the world indigenous communities/peoples, the UNC urged all members of "our community, old and young", to abstain from attending the said meeting and to prioritise the well-being and protection of "our community's rights and interests" .
Any recalcitrant individual/tribe participating in the scheduled event/programme should not take the name of one's tribe and speak on behalf of the Nagas, the UNC warned.
