Jiribam, January 30 2025:
Continuing its protests in pursuit of the demand for posting doctors in adequate numbers, and Chief Medical Officer (CMO) and Deputy Medical Superintendent (DMS) for the 50-bedded Jiribam District Hospital, the District Hospital Monitoring Committee (DHMC) has announced complete shutdown in Jiribam town on February 3.Speaking to the media at the Babupara office of JIMPAL on Wednesday, co-convenor Ph Monteswori explained that the Committee decided to enforce total shutdown in Jiribam as the government has failed to act on their demands.
"If there is still no positive response after the shutdown, indefinite economic blockade would be imposed from the next day," Monteswori warned.
She related that the Committee, along with other civil organisations, has been demanding that Jiribam district hospital be made fully operational while recalling that the government had given assurance to make the hospital a full-fledged health facility by January 18, 2025.While acknowledging the government's initiative, she said that the Committee had requested the government to equip the hospital with necessary infrastructure, and appointment of qualified doctors such as a CMO and DMS, within 10 days.
However, even after lapse of the deadline, no positive response has come forth from the government, maintained the co-convenor.
Monteswori also lamented that in-spite of the Health and Family Welfare Department joint secretary issuing an order on January 16 for six doctors to join the district hospital, none have reported for duty.
Representatives from various CSOs were also present during the press briefing.
