Discourse on "Human Rights in India" begins

Imphal, August 29 2024:
A two-day programme on "Human Rights in India" organised jointly by Manipur University's Centre for Human Rights & Duties Education and Department of Law under the sponsorship of National Human Rights Commission, commenced from Thursday at the Court Hall of the University.
The inaugural function was attended by MU vice chancellor Prof N Lokendra, Assam's former advocate general Prof Romeshchandra Borpatra Gohain, Assam physician and eminent writer Dr Atul Borgohain, Department of Law head Prof Y Premananda and School of Social Science dean Prof Th Purnima as presidium members.

Prof N Lokendro opined that human rights education will make the students aware about of violations happening in their environment.
He then informed that the human rights course and programme, which was implemented successfully at the MU under NHRC's initiative, will soon see courses at the master's level with collaboration of Department of Law.
As part of the discourse being participated by students, research scholars, professors and human rights activists, a souvenir was also released.
