Imphal, November 26 2024:
Maintaining that the current situation in Manipur is fallout of India's colonial rule following the state's merger into the Indian Union, United Committee Manipur (UCM) has cautioned that Manipur would cease to exist without a solid political decision taken immediately.
Speaking at the 27th foundation day of All Manipur Tammi-Chingmi Apunba Nupi Lup held at Yambem Mohori Memorial Youth Club, Uripok, UCM president YK Dhiren alleged that India's colonial rule, which neglected the development of Manipur and treated it as insignificant, is one of the root causes for the current crisis.
The failure of the political leaders of the state to urge the central government to protect Manipur is very unfortunate.
Political leaders, who claim to have come out to safeguard the lives and property of the people, are mainly prioritising protection of own interests.
The UCM also contended that the central government is backing Kuki narco-terrorists as part of the broader agenda to suppress the Meetei community, while cautioning that in case Manipur is bereft of a firm and decisive political stance, the state could cease to exist.
Therefore, need of the hour is to foster unity of all, setting aside differences, YK Dhiren said, and called on the mothers of Manipur to guide their children along the right path and play a key role in fostering a righteous, united, and strong Manipur.
All Manipur Tammi-Chingmi Apunba Nupi Lup president Mommon Leima stated that even as the state and central government are unable to solve the crisis besieging the state for the last 19 months, the re-imposition of AFSPA in areas under 6 police stations is not acceptable.
She argued that AFSPA should not be enforced anywhere in Manipur, given the many lives that have been destroyed under its provisions, while also urging both the central and state governments to swiftly arrest those involved in the abduction and killing of three women and three children.
The function was also attended by All Manipur Social Reformation and Development Samaj president Thokchom Ramani and Apunba Manipur Kanba Ima Lup president Lourembam Nganbi Leima among others.
As a mark of respect, participants also offered floral tributes to the photos of departed members of All Manipur Tammi-Chingmi Apunba Nupi Lup and those who have lost their lives in the on-going crisis.
