Imphal, July 26 2025: National Adventure Foundation (NAF), the apex body for adventure sports in India, has appointed adventurist and mountaineer Dr Kangabam Romeo Meetei as the director of its Manipur Chapter.

Welcoming the appointment as a proud moment for the state, the Manipur Sport Climbing Association (MSCA) has extended its best wishes to Dr Romeo.

MSCA, in a statement, informed that the formal appointment order was handed over to Dr Romeo at the NAF office in New Delhi by NAF executive director Wing Commander KK Verma (Retd) in the presence of NAF president Lieutenant General Raman Dhawan.

Dr Romeo brings with him over four decades of experience in the held of adventure sports, mountaineering and sport climbing.

He has led multiple international expeditions and competitions, including a record-breaking and highly successful Mount Everest expedition.

He is also a Guinness World Record holder.

Known for his work in promoting adventure sports and youth development through outdoor leadership and experiential learning, Dr Romeo was twice conferred Arunachal Pradesh's highest state award during his tenure in the state.

MSCA expressed gratitude to NAF headquarters for recognising Dr Romeo's contributions and expressed confidence that his appointment would further strengthen adventure activities in Manipur and the Northeast.

It said that his leadership is expected to inspire a spirit of courage, resilience and environmental awareness among the youth.

Dr Romeo currently serves as a faculty member in Manipur University department of teacher education, is a visiting faculty at the National Sports University, and is also the president of Manipur Sport Climbing Association.
