JAC threatens Noney power station shut down

The JAC formed against non-payment of compensation for 15 towers at Rengpahg and M Khunou under 132-33KV sub-station by MSPCL has threatened to shut down the sub-station if the authorities concerned fail to respond by July 28 regarding the distribution of Rs 3 crore in compensation.
Briefing the media at Manipur Press Club, here, on Wednesday, JAC spokesperson Pou Gangmei stated that MSPDCL constructed 15 towers in Rengpang and M Khunou area in Noney district in 2010-11, with assurances by the then deputy CM Gaikhangam that compensation would be paid to the affected villagers.
"In 2011, the towers were commissioned but the compensation has never been distributed.
Due to the towers, the villagers have been unable to farm or construct their houses," he informed, adding that the total compensation amounted to around Rs 3 crore.
He continued that in 2022-23, Power Grid constructed another six towers in the village.
In February 2026, the Grid distributed Rs 1,26,53,574.04 to the villagers whose farmlands and properties were affected.
However, the compensation for the 15 towers, which were commissioned in 2011, remains undistributed till date.
According to Pou Gangmei, an ultimatum was submitted to the chief secretary on June 17 this year with copies of the same forwarded to Power commissioner and the DC concerned.
However, no response has been provided till date.
Reiterating its stance the spokesperson said that the landowners and the villagers would be compelled to shut down the sub-station if no response is received by July 28 .
