Imphal, June 20 2024:
Asserting that private hostels or boarding facilities should stop operating for commercial purpose only, Apunba Ireipakki Maheiroi Sinpanglup (AIMS) said that it will keep a tab on hostels and boarding facilities being run without proper regulations.
In a release, AIMS education & academic affairs secretary Nandita Ngasepam noted mushrooming of hostels and boarding facilities which are managed without any regulations and simply for monetary gains.
Parents and guardians are keeping their wards in these hostels and boarding facilities with hope that their children would study hard and become good students, she added.
It is well aware that keeping both young boy and girl students in the same building is risky.
Opening of hostels/boarding facilities just because there are some empty rooms in a building or by taking rent of some rooms without any regulation is akin to commodification of the students, she contended, while demanding department concerned to look into the matter and formulate a proper regulation.
She also urged parents and guardians to first inspect the hostels and boarding facilities where their wards would be kept.
Nandita cautioned that the students' body will ban hostels/boarding facilities operating without any regulation and considering students as mere commodity.
