Imphal, February 20 2025:
Many candidates and parents have voiced dissatisfaction over the decision of All India Institute of Medical Sciences (AIIMS) to assign Dibrugarh in Assam as the examination centre for the 2024 Common Recruitment Examination (CRE) for the Grade-IV posts at the Regional Institute of Medical Sciences (RIMS).
The examination centre for the recruitment of various posts, including dresser, hospital attendant, hospital attendant Grade-III, hospital attendant Grade-III (Nursing Orderly), mortuary attendant, multi-tasking staff, nursing attendant, office assistant Grade-II, store attendant (multi-tasking), OT assistant, OT attendant, store attendant Grade-II, operator (ENM), lift operator, and darkroom assistant, has been assigned to Dibrugarh in Assam.
In this regard, parents of candidates seeking different positions informed this daily that, given the current situation in the state, travelling via national highways is nearly impossible for those from the valley, while flying to Dibrugarh would be expensive, and candidates would incur extra costs for food and lodging, posing a significant challenge for candidates from economically disadvantaged families.
One parent stated that since the posts are for RIMS, many applicants are from the state.
For those candidates who are unable to travel to Imphal due to the ongoing crisis, the examination centre should be allotted in the neighbouring states.
The centre for candidates from the valley districts of Manipur should ideally be in Imphal, in line with the candidates' preferences.
Many of the parents opined that it is unfair to select an examination centre based on the convenience of the organisers while disregarding the needs of the candidates.
Such decisions may ultimately prevent candidates from taking the exam, they feared.
According to the guidelines issued by AIIMS, the centre will be determined based on the number of applicants.
If the number of applicants is fewer than 500, the centre will not be chosen based on the preferences of the candidates; instead, a common centre will be selected.
