Imphal, December 19 2024:
Employees of the Board of Secondary Education Manipur (BSEM) would be continuing their pen-down strike until the government removes the incumbent chairman and appoints a new one through proper process by conducting a Departmental Promotion Committee (DPC).
Speaking at a press meet held in association with the Manipur Government Services' Federation (MGSF) at Manipur Press Club on Thursday, Khundongbam Samananda, a representative of the protesting employees, emphasised the employees' firm stance.
He stated that they understand how the strike, which has now entered its 11th day, is causing disruptions to the education sector, particularly with board examinations approaching.
However, the employees are resolute, on the demand for adherence to proper appointment protocols, he maintained.
Samananda explained that the tenure of the previous chairman, who was appointed on deputation, had lapsed, leading to expectations of a DPC-based appointment.
The reappointment of the former chairman, however, has been deemed unacceptable by the employees.
The employees will not end the strike until the government removes the current chairman and follows the proper procedure to appoint a new one.
he reiterated.
Supporting the stance, MGSF general secretary Purujit Lairekyengbam pointed out that the current chairman's appointment violates service rules.
He said that officers above the age of 60 years cannot be posted on deputation, making the reappointment of a 62-year-old officer a breach of regulations.
He also said that the incumbent chairman is facing charge of violating service rules and is under investigation by an inquiry committee.
