Lecturers to launch pen-down strike from Jul 21

Imphal, July 19 2025: Lecturers" Association Manipur (LAM) 2018 Batch has announced a pen-down strike from July 21 to 26, 2025, in protest against the prolonged delay in the regularisation process.

Addressing a press conference at the Manipur Press Club on Saturday, LAM 2018 Batch general secretary Erengbam Malemnganbi Chanu stated that the decision to launch the strike was taken during a recent meeting of the association.

She recalled that 603 higher secondary school lecturers were appointed on a contractual basis in 2019 .

A cabinet decision on January 8, 2023, approved their regularisation and assured that regular pay would be disbursed from April 2023 .

However, the salaries have yet to be released, with authorities citing an incomplete regularisation process.

Despite submitting repeated representations to the authorities concerned, the association was met each time with vague assurances to "wait for some more time," she rued.

Malemnganbi further noted that, given the sensitive situation in the state, the association refrained from any agitation and continued working diligently in the interest of the students, upholding the spirit of sacrifice.

She bemoaned the fact that three lecturers passed away without receiving their regularised pay.

"In light of this prolonged injustice, the association has been left with no option but to launch the agitation," she said.
