Consultative meet on sustainable fanning hosted

Kamjong, April 19 2025:
A one-day consultative meet on "Village Level Geo-Economic Development through Sustainable Farming" was held at the community hall of Shingkap village in Kamjong district on April 16 .
The interactive session was organized jointly by the Tribal Resource Development Centre (TRDC) in collaboration with Development for Rural People (DRP).
The program began with an invocation prayer by Joy Jajo, village secretary of Shingkap.
The keynote address was delivered by entrepreneur Yaruingam Ningshen.
He emphasized on the selective cultivation of crops driven by high demand to generate cash income to the farmers.
Cultivation of cash crops on large scale is the need of the hour as it would eventually generate much income to the farming community, he added.
Yaruingam Ningshen also drew a line between organic and non-organic farming and its impact on human health and to the soil.
He warned the participants of the grave dangers of using chemicals and pesticides like Roundup (Glyphosate) and other fertilizers.
Dr Changmei Shadang, dietician and nutritionist, highlighted the importance of maintaining balanced diet by taking organic food avoiding red meat, processed food/products and fast food from our daily menu.
Additionally, agriculturist Ningreingam Kashung, apiculturist Athui Panrnei also spoke at event.
The program concluded with a benediction pronounced by the Village Chief Solomon Awungshi, followed by distribution high yielding seed varieties (Moringa seeds and Roselle seeds) to the farmers.
