Sanajaoba JAC threatens intense stir

The Joint Action Committee (JAC) formed in connection with the custodial death of Khoisnam Sanajaoba has submitted a memorandum to the Governor of Manipur, outlining a four-point charter of demands and warning of intense agitation if the demands are not fulfilled within five days.
Addressing media persons at Manipur Press Club, here, on Thursday, JAC co-convenor Yumkhaibam Nungshitombi stated that the demands include registering FIR against police personnel involved in the arrest, impartial investigation by an independent agency such as the CBI or conduct of judicial inquiry headed by a sitting or retired High Court judge, adequate ex-gratia compensation, suitable government job to the next of kin and submission of the post-mortem report along with the raw videography of the procedure.
He further warned that if the government fails to respond within the stipulated timeframe, the JAC will launch intense agitation in collaboration with other civil society organisations.
Meanwhile, a sit-in protest condemning the custodial death was staged at Khurai Keithel on Thursday.
It may be recalled that Khoisnam Sanajaoba (27) s/o Gandhi of Khurai Ningthoubung Leirak, an under-trial prisoner, died while in judicial custody on April 13 at JNIMS casualty.
He was arrested on March 31 along with four others for alleged links to the proscribed KCP Noyon (MLF) from Sawombung Thongkhong.
He was remanded to Manipur Central Jail, Sajiwa, on April 10 and admitted to JNIMS for treatment three days later, where he subsequently passed away.
