Noney, August 12 2024:
Villages Council Longmai Area (VCLA), representing 30 villages in Noney, held a meeting to address frequent power supply disruptions in the district.
Despite multiple appeals and memoranda submitted to relevant authorities, the power line from Yurembam power station to Noney sub-station remains unstable, leading to frequent and protracted outages.
The newly bifurcated district of Noney has been neglected, with outdated electric poles, insulators, and HT/LT wires frequently snapping thereby causing serious inconvenience to consumers, who have connected to prepaid metres for over two years, apart from affecting the local economy and online administrative functions.
The meeting attendants were unanimous that shortage of staff at MSPDCL and MSPCL offices, posting of non-tribal employees hindering line maintenance, and overload of consumers of 3.5 MVA capacity, among others are some factors for the frequent blackout at the district headquarters.
The meeting also resolved to make a final appeal to authorities concerned to replace outdated infrastructure with new mini-towers, deploy of at least five additional employees from risk-free communities to improve line maintenance at MSPCL office, upgrade capacity from 3.5 MVA to 5 MVA at Noney sub-station, and prompt inauguration of the Jiri-Thangal (Lamdangmei) power line extending up to Noney sub-station.
Those present also demanded an officially documented agreement with the competent authority by August 18, 2024, failing which the public would resort to mass agitation.
