'Artificial' flooding of Ikop Pat worries farmers

Thoubal, July 12 2024:
As shutters of two dams constructed at Khellakhong over the Arong Turel (river) have malfunctioned, fish and paddy farms around Ikop Pat in Thoubal district are facing artificial flooding.
Water of the Arong Turel flows through Thoubal Athokpam into Ikop Pat and further towards Khellakhong till the Imphal River.
However, as two shutters out of three at Khellakhong are not working, water swelled causing artificial flooding at Ikop Pat.
Speaking to The People's Chronicle, a farmer pointed out that water from Thou bal Dam middle canal and Arong Turel which should pass through Khellakhong are blocked due to malfunctioning of two the shutters.
The farmer urged authorities concerned to repair the shutters and address inconveniences faced by the farmers.
