Imphal, February 10 2025:
Under its Operation Sadbhavana, Assam Rifles dedicated a newly-constructed community hall to the village authorities of Hungdung Goda in Kamjong district on Monday.
Designed as a central hub for the village, the community hall will facilitate public meetings, cultural programmes, and social gatherings.
In a statement, PRO, IGAR (S) informed that the handing-over ceremony was attended by one Yarngai Rimai, the oldest resident of the area, as chief guest.
Fondly known as the Old Compounder by the villagers, Yarngai served as a civil medical assistant to the British Indian Army during World War II when he was just a teenager.
The event was also attended by senior officials of Assam Rifles, village authorities, and local residents.
Speaking at the event, Assam Rifles officials reaffirmed the force's commitment to fostering harmony and ensuring development in remote areas.
The village authority and community members expressed hope that the new infrastructure would provide a safe and functional space for discussions, celebrations, and educational programs, fostering unity and development.
Assam Rifles also inaugurated an upgraded Primary Health Centre under Operation Sadbhavana 2024-25 at Sajik Tampak in Chandel district.
The inauguration ceremony was attended by Kuki Inpi Chandel (KIC) president Lhumthang Haokip, chief secretary of Sajik Tampak, Elvis Zou, along with other dignitaries, healthcare professionals, and local residents.
The newly upgraded PHC is a step towards ensuring quality healthcare, especially for underserved communities.
The facility is equipped with essential medical services, including vaccinations, maternity care, child healthcare, emergency treatments, outpatient consultation services, and basic diagnostic facilities, the statement added.
