Manipur celebrates International Women's Day 2025 with gusto

Manipur joined the rest of the world in celebrating International Women's Day (IWD) 2025 by observing the day across the length and breadth of the State.
BISHNUPUR
IWD 2025 was celebrated today at the DC Conference Hall, Mini Secretariat Complex, Bishnupur under the theme 'For ALL Women and Girls: Rights.
Equality.
Empowerment'.
The celebration was organised by the District Administration and District ICDS Cell, Bishnupur to honour the achievements and contributions of women.
Bishnupur Deputy Commissioner Lourembam Bikram; H Mitabina Devi, Programme Officer, District ICDS Cell; ADM, Toijam Opendro; Divisional Forest Officer Bishnupur, Waikhom Romabai; CMO L Raichandra Singh, District Level Officers, officials concerned and staff of District Administration attended the event.
Separately, the Department of Social Welfare.
Government of Manipur, observed International Women's Day 2025 with an awareness cum interaction programme on "Women's Schemes" at the Old DC Complex, Bishnupur, today.
After a two-year hiatus prompted by the State's law and order challenges, the celebration was imbued with renewed energy and purpose.
Attended by Ngangom Uttam Singh Director (Social Welfare), Manipur as the chief guest, the event included an interactive session and distribution of gift items to relief camp residents and in-depth technical sessions led by esteemed resource persons.
CHANDEL
The District Administration Chandel in collaboration with ICDS Cell and District Hub for Empowerment of Women Chandel organized IWD 2025 under the theme "Together, Lets #Accelerate Action for Gender Equality#" at the Multipurpose Hall, Mini Secretariat, Chandel.
The celebration was also attended by Pratibha Khoyumthem, DPO ICDS project Chandel; SP Chandel Babitarani Swain, Mothel Saka, SDC Chandel and W Promilata Monsang, SDC/BO Chandel as presidium members.
JIRIBAM
Jiribam celebrated International Women's Day in a grand manner at DC Office Complex, Jiribam with Krishna Kumar Deputy Commissioner, Jiribam as the chief guest.
The programme was attended by Shanti Devi, Caretaker Councillor of Jiribam Municipal Council, SDO Jiribam Laishram Roshan, Zonal Education Officer, Jiribam Th Amurashi Devi among others.
As part of BBBP Scheme, many girls and women were feted with certificates, cash awards and gifts for their outstanding contributions in the field of social service, law and order, health care, banking, education etc.
Moreover, lactating mothers, Anganwadi workers, ASHA workers, media persons were also felicitated with cash prizes.
During the programme, awards were distributed to winners of essay writing competition organized in connection with the BBBP programme and girl toppers of Government schools.
KAKCHING
As part of today's celebration, Mahila Sabha (women's assembly) was conducted at various Gram Panchayats (GP) under Kakching district today.
The Mahila Sabha was jointly organised in collaboration with the Panchayati Raj Institution (PRI) and the Village Level Federations promoted under the Deendayal Antyodaya Yojana-National Rural Livelihoods Mission (DAY-NRLM).
Additionally, Leimarembi VLF, Shinthangambi VLF, Thoujanbi VLF, Lingjenthoibi VLF, Thoungambi VLF and Pandam VLF came together to celebrate IWD 2025 at Keirak Panthoibi Lampak today.
On another note, HF AO Arong Khunou, ADAM and CWC Kakching celebrated Women's Day 2025 under the theme "Accelerate Action" by planting tree saplings at Angaan Ching Eco Park, Kakching.
Kha Manipur College, Kakching also celebrated IWD 2025 organisd by the College's
Women's Cell.
KAMJONG
Kamjong district celebrated 10 years of the BBBP scheme along with International Women's Day on the theme 'Move Forward: For All Women And Girls' at Town Hall, Phungyar HQ with the support of Deputy Commissioner, Kamjong Rangnamei Rang Peter, IAS.
The celebration was attended by Nimmi Azingwungshi Khamrang, MCS, SDO Phungyar; Dr Shangchungla Keishin, Specialist OBGYN & Nodal Officer, Maternal Health, District Hospital Kamjong; Augustine Shokchui, Lawyer, OSC, Kamjong; Phungyar village Headman; CSOs; Town Planning Committee, Phungyar; president of Shanao Long, Phungyar; Anganwadi supervisors and workers; staff and workers of One Stop Centre, Kamjong among others.
During the celebration, folk dance and folk song were presented by ICDS Cell, Phungyar and Shanao Long Phungyar respectively.
Distribution of sanitary pads to adolescent children and pamphlets on OSC, Women Helpline [181], Child Helpline [1098] was conducted as a part of the celebration.
A tree plantation drive was also carried out to mark the occasion.
NONEY
Noney district celebrated IWD 2025 at NG Memorial Hall in Longmai Bazar, Noney district headquarter.
The event was organised by District Administration Noney in collaboration with ICDS Cell, DSWO and One Stop Centre, Noney under the banner of BBBP.
The celebration was graced by chief guest HL Christian Home, MCS, AC to DC Noney; functional president Zaojiangam Pamei, SDC of Haochong, SDC/Branch Officer Noney, MK Celestina, official and staff of Noney DC, students and women from different walks of life.
Sanitary pads were also distributed to the women present.
More than fifty people took part in a rally focusing on the role of women in fighting against drug abuse in today's society in the morning from Khumji traffic point to Longmai Bazar traffic point and back to Khumji traffic point.
PHERZAWL
The District Administration of Pherzawl celebrated IWD 2025 with a vibrant cultural extravaganza at the Pherzawl Community Hall.
Deputy Commissioner Mannuamching graced the event as the chief guest.
A captivating cultural dance competition, showcasing the district's rich heritage and remarkable talent of the women, was one of the highlights of the celebration.
The Lungthulien Kawnpui All Women Cultural Troupe claimed the winner's title, while the Pherzawl Nuhmei Pawl Cultural Troupe secured the runner-up position.
Adding to the festivities, a mother-daughter selfie contest was organized.
DC Mannuamching visited Lalneizo, a 97-year-old resident of Pherzawl village, who holds the record of being the district's oldest woman.
As a token of respect, the Deputy Commissioner presented her with a cash award and a Women's Day t-shirt.
The celebration saw the presence of school children, women from the community and several officials, including ADC Pherzawl Zosanglur Joute, Addl SP Lunzamung Tungnung and DPO (ICDS) Pherzawl T Chingngaihlian.
SENAPATI
At Senapati the IWD celebration was organised by BBBP in collaboration with ICDS, Senapati, One Stop Centre, Senapati, NYK, Senapati and DHEW, Senapati under the District Administration of Senapati at Apfii Saliki, Senapati.
The celebration began with DC of Senapati, Mamoni Doley, IAS inaugurating the Breast Feeding Comer at Apfii Saliki (women's market), Senapati.
PP Ronald, MCS, Project Director, DRDA Senapati; S Plim Reikhenamai, MCS.
AC to DC, Senapati; RN Hannah, president, Senapati District Women Association were also present at the celebration.
During the programme, prizes were distributed to the winners of the wall painting competition with Mave School bagging first position, followed by St Anthony School in second position and Mt Everest Hr Sec School in third place.
TAMENGLONG
The District Administration of Tamenglong, in collaboration with the ICDS Cell, One Stop Centre (OSC), and the District Social Welfare Department, organized a vibrant celebration of International Women's Day at Tamenglong headquarters under the theme "Accelerate Action" which aims to empower women and raise awareness about the ongoing battle against drug abuse under the Nasha Mukt Bharat Abhiyan (NMBA) initiative.
The day began with a spirited rally that commenced from Haipou Jadonang Park and concluded at Apollo Ground, drawing a diverse crowd that included District Commissioner Dr Angshim Dangshawa, IAS, Sub-Divisional Officer D.Meidinbui, MCS, Additional Superintendent of Police Josiah T Pamei, Zonal Education Officer N Abonpou Christopher, members of the Joint Tribes Council, Women Wing, ASHA and Anganwadi workers, CRPF, police personnel etc.
The highlight of the event was a panel discussion featuring influential women leaders including Dr G Majachunglu, Chief Medical Officer of Tamenglong, Hearty Samro Panmei, Junior Engineer at PHE Tamenglong Division and Ramning Paine, Former Member of District Council (MDC), ADC Tamenglong.
THOUBAL
The International Women's Day celebration was held widely across Thoubal district.
Lilong Haoreibi College Women's Cell, IQAC and NSS organised IWD celebration at the multipurpose hall of the College under the theme "For All Women and Girls: Rights, Equality, Empowerment".
Rural Voluntary Services Wangbal celebrated IWD 2025 at the HQ of RVS located at Thoubal Wangbal Mayai Leikai.
Integrated Rural Development Service Organisation (IRDSO) in collaboration with Women in Governance (WiNG) Thoubal Chapter celebrated the day at EEO Club, Lamding.
Six Village Level Federation of Tentha GP, Wangjing-Tentha CD Block and RD&PR, Manipur Government observed IWD 2025 at Tentha Multiplex.
Leimarembi VLF and Leisemba VLF also joined hands to celebrate the day at the conference hall of Ngarouthel, Heirok Part (III).
Additionally, District legal Services Authority, Thoubal and Legal Aid Clinic, Kiyam Litanpok observed IWD 2025 at Thoubal Sabaltongba Community Hall with the attendance of over 100 women.
UKHRUL
The month long celebration of Beti Bachao Beti Padhao culminated today with the celebration of the International Women's Day at DRDA Conference Hall, Mini Secretariat Office Complex at Hamleikhong, Ukhrul.
Notable dignitaries include Ukhrul Deputy Commissioner, Asish Das and Dr Lucy MO, Ukhrul.
The chief guest distributed Certificate of Appreciation to Mahila Police Ukhrul and to KM Catherine Soyamphi of Soyam Products.
The programme was attended by SDOs Dinringam Kamei, Roland Ningshen, Ngamreikhui Luithui, staff ICDS, social welfare OSC and women leaders of Ukhrul town.
The programme was organised by the District Administration with ICDS Cell Ukhrul, One Step Centre Ukhrul, District Hub for Empowerment of Women.
ASSAM RIFLES
Assam Rifles marked IWD 2025 with vibrant celebrations across Manipur, including Mantripukhri Garrison, Komlalchong (Imphal West), Chandrakhong (Thoubal), and also in Chandel, Kakching, Kamjong, and Ukhrul districts witnessing the enthusiastic participation of over 1300 women.
At Mantripukhri Garrison, a flower pot competition was held followed by a lecture on women's empowerment and an award ceremony recognizing outstanding contributions.
In Chandrakhong, Assam Rifles collaborated with meira paibis.
and local leaders for interactive discussions on women's issues.
At Komlakhong, a cooking competition saw local women and Assam Rifles personnel teaming up to prepare a variety of traditional and regional delicacies, celebrating culinary heritage and unity.
Assam Rifles also provided study materials and essential supplies to Tabitha Orphanage in Mantripukhri, Imphal, benefiting 60 students.
The Regional President of ARWAA, Navjeet Kaur Kamboj, also extended emotional support to the children.
At Joupi, Chandel, 'A Day with Riflewomen' introduced village girls to life in Assam, Rifles through a motivational, session, weapons display, rope climbing, and firing range visit, concluding with a volleyball, match and dog show.
In; Unopat, Chandel, a motivational talk and volleyball match fostered resilience and camaraderie.
In Sehlon and nearby villages, over 800 locals participated in yoga, painting competitions, awareness lectures and a medical camp focusing on maternal health and nutrition.
Kakching's IDP camps saw inspiring speeches,, including by Manipur's first woman mountaineer, N Bidyapati Devi.
The event was, graced by Priyadarshini, MPS, SP Kakching.
The week-long celebrations in Kamjong and Sangshak featured an awareness run, financial literacy sessions, self-defence training, cooking competitions, and health workshops, concluding with a community movie screening.
