Jiribam, August 07 2024:
Jiri Development Organisation (JDO) secretary H Priyananda has voiced remorse over failure of the government to facilitate resettlement of the Meeteis displaced from Borobekra sub-division and currently residing in relief camps.
Speaking to media persons at Jiri Ima Meira Paibi Apunba Lup (JIMPAL) office on Tuesday, Priyananda pointed out that Meeteis from Lamtaikhunou and Modhupur under Borobekra sub-division have been taking shelter in relief camps for over two months with the government making any initiative for their resettlement or reconstruct the houses damaged.
Moreover, failure of authorities concerned to honour demand of CSOs, Meira Paibi groups and student bodies for deployment of additional security forces in areas targeted by arsonists is unfortunate, he said, while urging the government to reconstruct the damaged houses, deploy adequate security and ensure resettlement of displaced people.
Chipping in, Federation of Civil Society Organisation (FOCS) president Th Manihar recalled the arson act on 73/74 houses in Lamtai Khunou under Borobekra sub-division and torching of one-two houses near Borobekra police station.
He demanded adequate deployment of security forces in red zone areas such as Mongbung, Leingangpokpi, Gularthol, Uchathol, Nungchappi, Ningthem Khunjao, Chandrapur, Ching-dong Leikai, Leihaopokpi and Champanagar so as to prevent terror attacks by Kuki-Zo on the Meeteis.
Manihar also urged for setting up a security post either of neutral forces like CRPF or BSF at Chutobekra, Jiri Tipaimukh road.
The press conference was attended by representatives of JIMPAL, JDO and FOCS.
