KSO decries assault on its general secretary by commandos
Source: Chronicle News Service

Kangpokpi, March 03 2022: The general secretary of Kuki Students' Organisation (KSO), Sadar Hills was allegedly assaulted by Imphal West Police commando at Kalapahar in Kangpokpi district around 1 am Thursday.

Enraged over the alleged highhandedness and misuse of power by the police commando in the hill district, KSO Sadar Hills demanded swift and befitting action against the commando personnel involved in the assault of its general secretary within two days.

It also warned that if the authorities concerned failed to take action within the stipulated time, they should be ready to face the music of infuriated hill people.

Speaking to media, KSO Sadar Hills general secretary Thangtinlen Haokip narrated that he was monitoring, the construction of KSO Sadar Hills administrative office building till late night and he returned to home after dropping the Zillai president at Changoubung.

He continued that at Kalapahar security personnel stopped his vehicle and asked him to open the back door to which he politely opened and told them to do their duty.

But when he disclosed his identity as the general secretary of KSO Sadar Hills, the commando personnel retorted, "How big is the KSO and the civil society organisation" and started assaulting him without any reason.

According to the medical report, the KSO leader suffered a ruptured eardrum owing to slapping.

The general secretary also alleged that the commando personnel even tried to throw away the KSO General Headquarters flag from inside his car but he strongly resisted while personnel from Kangpokpi police intervened and stopped them from doing so.

K Songreng, spokesperson of KSO Sadar Hills, while condemning the assault on their general secretary by police commando led by additional SP, Imphal West for no reason at Kalapahar, warned that if the authorities concerned failed to take appropriate action on the commando personnel involved in the assault within two days, then intense forms of agitation will be initiated in collaboration with the public.

He also said that the presence of Manipur police commando in the hill districts has been objected since many years back, citing various "infamous incidents" in the hiljs, adding that their (commandos) high handedness and misuse of power upon innocent civilians are intolerable.

The KSO Sadar Hills also pointed finger at the district police over the presence of police commandos in their jurisdiction, questioning the district police's capability in dealing with the law-and-order situation of the district.

It also warned that the district police will be charged with the same accountability in connection with the presence and high-handedness of the police commandos in Kangpokpi district if they (commandos) were not ejected from the district at the earliest.
