Thoubal, June 02 2025:
Amidst a students' protest against the transfer of their teacher, Thongam Joychandra, representatives of the SMDC and the Parents Committee of Khangabok Awang Upper Primary School have locked the school, in denunciation of the transfer order.
Speaking to reporters on the sidelines of the protest, SMDC member Elangbam Rashikumar explained that as the Primary School has no Social Science teacher, Joychandra was engaged to teach the same subject.
He observed that the teacher took up various measures for the development of the school and also for the welfare of the students during his time in the school.
Rashikumar, however, lamented that, shortly after his posting to the school, Joychandra was transferred to another institution even though no Social Science teacher has been appointed at the school.
He suspected that the government's transfer order is an attempt to gradually shut down the school.
"As a form of protest, we have shut down the school and will remain closed until Joychandra's transfer is revoked," he said.
The protestors also held placards with messages such as 'Joychandra cannot be transferred' and School will remain shut until the transfer order is revoked', while also shouting slogans condemning the order.
