Sit-in decries death of Maibam Samita

Thoubal, July 31 2025: A sit-in protest was organised by Athokpam Meira Paibi Apunba Lup (AMPAL) at Thoubal Athokpam Keithel waiting shed on Thursday condemning the death of Maibam Samita Devi of Tekcham Mayai Leikai after child delivery at District Hospital , Thoubal on July 28.Speaking to media persons on the sidelines of the protest, where the participants held placards inscribed with the slogan 'We Want Justice', Leimapokpam Leiren, one of the protesters, as well as an uncle of Samita, contended that she repeatedly complained of distress and discomfort which doctor and nursing staff on duty dismissed as normal events after operation and neglected her treatment.

Alleging that medical negligence was the root cause for Samita's untimely demise, they demanded that doctor and staff involved in the case be terminated from service.

Both also pledged support to the JAC formed in connection with Samita's death.
