Jiribam student bodies warn stir

Jiribam units of Manipuri Students' Federation (MSF), Democratic Students' Alliance of Manipur (DESAM), Kangleipak Students' Association (KSA) and another student body have warned to launch agitation if the government does not make arrangement for students of Chingdong Leikai Primary School and Sorok Atingbi High School to continue their studies.
Addressing a press meet at DESAM's Babupara office on Monday, KSA Jiribam president Konthoujam Somorjit stated that the student bodies submitted a memorandum and met Jiribam deputy commissioner on June 23 asking for relocation of displaced people sheltering in relief camps at Chingdong Leikai Primary School and Sorok Atingbi High School from June 6, to another suitable and safe location, to facilitate students of the said schools resume their study.
But till now no concrete action has been taken by the district administration, he decried, and advised the education minister and authority concerned to look into the matter and-facilitate the students continue their education.
Somorjit further cautioned that if their demand is not met by August 1 then they are ready to launch an intense protest with the students.
He also emphasised that department concerned should fill up post of the vacant teaching and non-teaching staff of schools in the district at the earliest and asked teachers on leave to re-join duty immediately.
Somorjit further pressed the government to provide a secure and convenient place for sheltering the internally displaced persons.
