Arms recovered, UG cadres arrested

Imphal, June 28 2025:
Security forces continued extensive search operations and area domination across fringe and vulnerable areas of the state leading to the recovery of a large cache of arms, ammunition, explosives, and equipment, as well as the arrest of multiple cadres of proscribed UG organisations.
On Friday, arms recovery operations led by security forces in Wangoo Tarung Mamang Ching under Wangoo police station, Kakching district, resulted in the recovery of an INSAS rifle without magazine, a modified AK-56 rifle with magazine, two single-barrel firearms including one bolt-action, a .32 pistol with magazine, an INSAS LMG magazine, a 51mm mortar bomb with cover, three improvised explosive devices (IEDs) weighing approximately one kg, a live .32 round, 20 empty INSAS cases, three tear smoke shells, a Baofeng handset with charger, and various military clothing and gear.
Further recovery was made in Torbung Sabal Mamang Leikai under Phougakchao Ikhai PS, Bishnupur district, where an SLR with five live rounds, a modified AK rifle with an empty magazine, and three single-barrel guns were found.
In Kameng Sabal area along IVR road under Lamsang PS, Imphal West district, three Myanmar-made pistols with magazines and three high-explosive hand grenades were seized.
Meanwhile, on Thursday, a cadre of KCP (PWG), identified as Nongmeikapam Jilish Meitei (29) of Samurou Awang Leikai, was arrested from Chingarel Tejpur under Lamlai PS in Imphal East.
He was reportedly extorting money from private firms and the public to raise party funds.
The same day, two more KCP (PWG) cadres were arrested from Wangkhei Ningthem Pukhri Mapal under Porompat PS.
Identified as Laishram Suraj Singh (33) and Sapam ningol Kshetrimayum ongbi Ashangbi Devi (34), the duo had in their possession a scooter, Rs 10,000 in extortion money, an Aadhaar card, and two mobile phones.
On Friday, police arrested three more KCP (PWG) cadres from Thangmeiband Thingel Leikai in Imphal West district.
Those apprehended were Aheibam Johnson Singh, Ningthoujam Scolia Devi, and Salam Binita Devi.
Three mobile phones and a wallet were seized from them.
In a separate case, police apprehended two individuals at FCP Gate, Jiribam, for transporting illicit liquor.
Chamsinlu Rongmei (40), and Gaichendinliu Rongmei (37) were caught with large quantities of IMFL and DIC liquor.
The seized contraband included hundreds of bottles and cans of various liquor brands.
The accused and the seized items were handed over to the excise department after due procedures.
