Awareness programme on POCSO, child marriage acts held

Kakching, July 26 2025: Kakching District Bar Association (KDBA) organised legal awareness programmes on Protection of Children from Sexual Offences (POCSO) Act, 2012, and Prohibition of Child Marriage Act, 2006, at H Keinahal Memorial English School, Langmeidong, and Iramdam Maheikol (IMA), Langmeidong, on Saturday.

The programme held at H Keinahal Memorial English School was attended by KDBA president advocate Nongmaithem Madhu Singh, social activist Dr Yengkhom Bhagyachandra, school founder Dr Huidrom Jiten, and headmaster Yumnam Dineshwar as presidium members, while advocate Naorem Jameson spoke on POCSO Act and advocate Nongmaithem Kun-jarani on the Prohibition of Child Marriage Act, 2006, as resource persons.

Similarly, at the programme held at Iramdam Maheikol, Langmeidong, KDBA president advocate N Madhu Singh, vice-president advocate Chongtham Manish-war, social activist Dr Y Bhagyachandra, school founder-cum-principal Longjam Tikensana Meitei, and assistant teacher Thounaojam Anjali were present as dais members, with advocates N Kunjarani and N Jameson serving as resource persons.

It may be mentioned that KDBA has been organising such legal awareness programmes at different schools in Kakching district every Saturday as part of its campaign to raise awareness about the POCSO Act, 2012, and the Prohibition of Child Marriage Act, 2006, among children.
