Manipur University introduces value-added courses

In an effort to combat the negative impacts of various social issues on youth and students, Manipur University (MU) has introduced value-added courses into its syllabus, informed university's vice-chancellor Prof N Lokendra, during the inaugural session of a five-day workshop on 'Youth Empowerment and Skills+ (YES+)' on Monday.
The workshop, jointly organised by MU Department of Teacher Education and the Art of Living foundation, Bengaluru, was held at the department's multipurpose hall.
Speaking at the event as the chief guest, Prof Lokendra highlighted that the state has been grappling with numerous social challenges for decades, which, he noted, have taken a mental toll on both students and the public, contributing to a negative societal impact.
In response, MU has introduced various value-added courses in collaboration with organisations such as the Art of Living Foundation, NCC, and NSS to mitigate the adverse effects of social issues while promoting personal growth and societal well-being, said the vice chancellor, who also stressed on the significance of skill development in the current scenario of the state.
He stated that compared to the conventional education system focusing mainly on theoretical learning, the National Education Policy (NEP) 2020 gives emphasis to practical skills and applied knowledge.
Dr Lokendra expressed confidence that the workshop would help the participants apply their newly acquired skills effectively in various aspects of life.
The inaugural event was also witnessed participated MU Department of Yoga head Prof T Inaobi, and Art of Living Foundation's senior faculty member Ra-jaque Rahman as the presidium members.
