State Handloom Expo begins

A State Handloom Expo (Haathkargah Mela) organised by the Manipur Handloom and Handicrafts Corporation under the sponsorship of the Office of the Development Commissioner (Handloom) of Ministry of Textiles was inaugurated at Iboyaima Shumang Leela Shanglen, Palace Compound here on Thursday.
Speaking as the chief guest of the inaugural function, Corporation's managing director E Jiten urged for cultivating habit of using locally-made products, which are not only of good quality but also help enhance income of the weavers and artisans of the state and further, the economy.
Even the state government had introduced the use and procurement policy to promote indigenous products in all government departments.
He also urged weavers and artisans to price their products reasonably and not focus only on profit, as it will discourage locals from buying, while further urging them to avail the various government benefits and schemes, catered specially to them.
In all, 60 stalls are opened at the Expo, some operated by IDPs.
The inaugural function was attended by Weavers Service Centre technical superintendent Surendra, Handloom and Textiles financial advisor Th Gunindro, and deputy director Th Basanta.
