IMA-South East celebrates 3rd foundation day

The Indian Medical Association - South East Manipur (IMA-SEM) Branch celebrated its 3rd Foundation Day along with a Continuing Medical Education (CME) programme on the theme "Non-Communicable Diseases" at the auditorium of Jivan Hospital, Kakching, on Wednesday.
The function was attended by Health Services director Dr Chambo Gonmei and IMA-SEM vice president Dr Yengkhom Ashok Kumar as chief guest and president respectively while Kakching CMO Dr Thaodem Rajen, former Chandel CMO Dr Nongmaithem Nabakishwor, Indian Medical Association Manipur State Branch (IMA-MSB) president Dr Sampson Sareo and IMA-MSB immediate past president professor Dr RK Lenin were the guests of honour.
Highlighting the various developmental programmes taken up in health sector in the state, Dr Chambo said that Super Speciality Blocks and Non-Communicable Diseases (NCD) Blocks will be established in Ukhrul, Senapati, Tamenglong, Chandel and Jiribam district hospitals under the Prime Minister's Development Initiative for the North East Region (PM-DevINE).
He also informed that construction is underway for blood banks and trauma care centres in Chandel, Thoubal, Bishnupur, Ukhrul and Noney districts.
The trauma care centre and blood bank in Nungba are expected to be inaugurated soon, he added.
Dr Gonmei informed that about 60 to 70 percent of the work for a new district hospital in Mayang Imphal has been completed.
Additionally, a cancer hospital will be established within Thoubal District Hospital, which is also being upgraded to a medical college.
He further revealed that a 100-bedded Mental Health Hospital is proposed to be set up at Lamphelpat.
"Once the land issues are resolved and construction is completed, we will be better equipped to address mental health challenges in the state," he stated.
The CME session, chaired by professor Dr RK Lenin and Jivan Hospital Medical Superintendent Dr Nongmaithem Jivanlata, featured a series of presentations by medical experts on various aspects of non-communicable diseases.
